Catherine B. Whatley, a REALTOR from Jacksonville, Fla., was installed as the 2003 president of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS at NAR's Board of Directors meeting during the association's annual REALTORS Conference & Expo that ended yesterday.
Whatley is owner of Buck & Buck Inc., a Jacksonville real estate company started by her grandfather in 1907. In 1998, she served as NAR regional vice president for the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi, as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. A REALTOR since 1969, she was president of the 60,000-member Florida Association of REALTORS in 1996 and was named the state's "REALTOR of the Year" in 1998. She is the only person ever to twice receive the Jacksonville Association of REALTORS' "REALTOR of the Year" Award, in 1986 and 1998.
Walter McDonald of Riverside, Calif., a REALTOR since 1964, was installed the new president-elect. Owner of Walt McDonald Real Estate, he was president of the California Association of REALTORS in 1993.
Al Mansell of Midvale, Utah, a REALTOR since 1969, is NAR's first vice president. Mansell is CEO of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Midvale. He served as president of the Utah Association of REALTORS in 1990.
Pat G. Kaplan of Portland, Ore., was re-elected to a third year as treasurer. A REALTOR for 23 years, she is broker-owner of Kaplan Real Estate Inc. and was president of the Oregon Association of REALTORS in 1996.
Steve Hoover of Roanoke, Va., is vice president and liaison to committees, and Michael Schmelzer of Great Neck, N.Y., is vice president and liaison to government affairs.
